Skoda Car Service Technicians Explain About Putting the Wrong Fuel in Your Vehicle

One of the questions professional service technicians are often asked is what happens if you put the wrong fuel in your vehicle. In theory, this should not be a problem, but it is actually more common than you would think. In recent years, both diesel and unleaded nozzles share the same pump space, which makes it even easier to make a mistake. So, what should you do?

Diesel Cars:
Putting petrol into your diesel is actually quite easy to do since the petrol nozzle will fit inside a modern diesel filler. Unfortunately, if you do put unleaded into your vehicle, you are going to need to spend a fair amount of money on new Skoda parts. Once the petrol mixes with the diesel in your tank, a solvent is created that can immediately start causing damage to your vehicle. In a worst case scenario, you could be taking your vehicle in for a new fuel pump, engine and fuel tank rather than your regular Skoda car service.
You can minimise the damage caused with a quick reaction. Providing you don’t start the engine, you may not suffer too much damage. You will need to push your vehicle from the pump and wait for professional help. You will need to call a breakdown service to provide a fuel drain and get the petrol out as quickly as possible.
If you do happen to drive away, you will immediately notice a problem as your engine will start to make some horrible noises. The quicker you stop, the greater the chance of rectifying the problems.

Petrol Cars:
You have to be very determined to put diesel into a petrol car since the nozzle will not fit. However, this scenario accounts for approximately a third of misfuelling calls. The main issue with putting diesel into a petrol car is that the fuel injectors are not designed to handle the fuel. This does mean that this type of problem is not as serious. Severe damage can still occur if you allow the fuel to circulate, so again quick action is vital. Once again, you will need professional assistance to completely drain your tank.

Five Features of the 2017 Skoda Superb 206TSI Sportline

If you are looking for a sportier version of the family friendly Superb, you may have wondered what the 206TSI Sportline has to offer. The standard Superb 206TSI has received rave reviews, so there are high expectations for this sportier variant. So, here are five features of the Superb Sportline.

It Provides Fantastic Performance:
The Skoda Superb Sportline is powered with a turbocharged, four cylinder 2.0 litre petrol engine. This unit produces 206 kW of power and 350 Nm torque. This is paired with a dual clutch six speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters. It also has permanent AWD (all wheel drive).
The engine is strong and full of character, and in the Sportline trim, there is a performance monitor. Sport Mode also adjusts the drivetrain calibration to hold on to the gears and rev out to the redline.

It’s Quite Frugal:
Consider the sporty performance it would be easy to assume that the Sportline Skoda Octavia Superb would be very thirsty. However, the model actually offers very respectable fuel economy figures. It is rated at an economy of 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres. This means that you won’t need to keep pulling over to hit the pumps when you are cruising the open road.

It’s Still a Decent Family Car:
While the sportier trim does mean that the rear seat looks more suited to two occupants, it does still provide plenty of room for the family. There is plenty of cabin space, with decent legroom in the rear and lots of storage options. There are seat pockets, and carpet lined door pockets. The middle rear seat folds down into an armrest with a cupholder, and there are cupholders in all of the doors. With the rear seats in place, there are 660 litres of cargo space, and there are plenty of “simply clever” touches in the rear including mesh boot netting.

Brilliant Tech:
At the heart of the cabin is the 8.0 inch infotainment system with sat nav and Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The system is remarkably easy to navigate, so you won’t need to spend hours menu diving to adjust your settings or stream your media.

Exceptional Safety:
There is a vast array of safety features as standard. This includes nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors front and rear, forward and rear collision warning featuring automated braking. Other safety features include lane keep assistance, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

The 2017 Skoda Rapid Spaceback Revealed

The Rapid Spaceback has received a significant facelift and was recently officially revealed ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. There were some exciting new features, but at its heart, the model has stuck to its original concept. Let’s take a closer look at what we’ve learned and how much the model has changed for 2017.

The External Features:

Obviously, when we first look at any new model of car, the first thing we notice is how it looks from the outside. The Rapid Spaceback sports new headlight features, such as bi-xenon headlights, LED driving lights, new headlight internals. There are some interesting design features; the lower part of the front bumper has been completely redesigned, and new mounted fog lights are fitted. On premium models, the bumpers will include a chrome bar that extends the full width for an added touch of class. At the rear, we find an extended rear window, there are tinted tail-lights that can be fitted with LED elements as an optional extra.

Under the Bonnet:

In the engine bay on the base model, there is a new 1.0 litre, three cylinder turbocharged powerplant that generates either 70 kW or 81 kW of power depending on the trims. This replaces the Volkswagen 1.2 litre engine that featured in the previous model. There are three other engines to choose from on the European specification models; they are a turbocharged 1.4 litre petrol engine that generates 92 kW of power and a 1.6 litre turbo diesel model that has two variant power outputs of 66 kW and 85 kW to choose from. All of the drivetrain variants have automatic engines with stop/start functionality and brake energy recovery technology.

More Useful Features:

The new updated Rapid has a new instrumentation pack with features, such as two rear USB ports, the latest Skoda infotainment, smartphone mirroring, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, surround sound audio and features can now be extended to WiFi hotspots. Other handy features include auto high beam activation, emergency city braking, fatigue detection and dusk sensing headlights. The new Rapid is set to go on sale in Australia from September 2017.

New Pricing at Skoda, Perth Buyers Demand More Options

We are used to seeing car makers competing in a never ending price war. However, by looking at customer feedback, Skoda may be about to book the trend a little. It appears that contrary to popular opinion Skoda customers are in fact eager to pay more for a quality car that meets their needs. Buyers seem to be more than prepared to splash the cash on optional extras and luxury items.

The Variety of Base Models:

When they visit Skoda Perth, Australia based drivers will notice that there are a wide variety of models available. Skoda aims to provide a car in virtually every segment, so most drivers will have a Skoda that fits their needs and their pockets. However, Australia seems to be sidestepping an uncertain world economy and as a result car sales are booming. We are primarily seeing a continuation of the trend of an increasing number of SUV sales, but other segments are also performing well.

The Rise and Rise of the Variants:

In this landscape of a car boom culture, there are a number of examples of people willing to pay a premium on something a little special. Only last month, Skoda introduced the Superb Sportline variant which hit the market with a $53,690 price tag. However, that was for the base model without any extras, if you add on a sunroof, optional packs and paint options the price could rise to $65,000.
Is that too rich for the Australian market? The data suggests it isn’t. Michael Irmer, the Skoda Australian Director, has stated, “I’m not sure our customers will stretch into the six digits yet” he added, “we’re working on the upper side of five digits.” This would seem to suggest there are more luxury options in the works to satisfy the appetites of hungry customers.

Is There a Price Ceiling?

It seems to be the case that Skoda and other manufacturers don’t have the answer to this question yet. A test lies ahead for the brand in the form of the new Kodiaq SUV that will have a starting price in the mid $40,000 bracket. Evidence from other manufacturers shows that customers seem happy to spend $55,000 an upwards on a seven seater SUV. It may be the case that the Kodiaq has a cost closer to $60,000 on premium models that would still be competitive with other premium models that cost close to $70,000.
